If There’s One Country That Knows How To Do Coats, It’s Canada
And under-the-radar Canadian brand Nobis knows how to do stylish coats
With festival season looming, you may be thinking about splashing out on a new jacket – something that can handle the unpredictable British weather and cold nights in a field, without making you look like a rambler who’s been separated from their group.
Nobis (Latin for “us”) was founded just over a decade ago with the aim of making coats that can withstand all the elements, not just the extreme cold. The Canadian label blends the best of classic outerwear design with premium technical fabrics and detailing, resulting in pieces guaranteed to keep you protected from inclement weather. The brand’s founder even regularly sleeps out on frozen lakes and rides snowmobiles across the tundra in Nobis jackets.
The jackets are able to cope with all kinds of weather because of Nobis’s insistence on genuinely effective technical features. Sympatex and Embrace membrane fabrics ensure waterproofing, windproofing and breathability, while zipped underarm vents, strong magnetic fastenings and seam-sealed construction lend temperature-regulating properties – which all adds up to incredibly heat-efficient jackets.
As well as technical fabrics, Nobis uses ethically-sourced duck down and furs purchased from responsible suppliers using sustainable sources, as well as making every piece machine-washable – eliminating the need for environmentally-harmful dry cleaning.
The collection includes the sleek Fisherman overcoat, which combines sharp epaulettes and leather piping on the chest pockets, with mouldable wire in the peak of the hood to keep the rain off.
One of our favourites is the timeless Parka, made with breathable down and a removable down-filled hood. If you’re looking for something a little more lightweight, the vintage-looking Sir Salvador with leather trims and internal quilt liner is worth checking out.
With a cult following across the globe, Nobis won’t remain a hidden gem for much longer. Just remember where you heard it first. nobis.com
