And after browsing the louche sweatshirts, tees, bomber jackets and shorts, we are too

The laid-back, casual style of California has had a growing influence on fashion over the past few years, and there’s been plenty of labels flourishing in the US state’s ample sunshine.
We’ve got a soft spot for Cali so we’re – as the locals say – stoked that Mr Porter, one of our favourite online shopping destinations for men, has launched a collection inspired by the Golden State’s lifestyle and culture.
The “Made in California” line features modern-day interpretations of surf, skate, street and casual wear, from 12 bold-faced names which include the surf-inspired ’80s stalwart Stüssy; James Perse, whose casually chic clothes are worn by many an A-lister; and designer Rick Owens, whose distinctive black uniform has long been a favourite of fashion insiders.

There are newer labels shaping the Californian fashion scene too, and one that’s bagged a spot in Mr Porter’s line-up is the fabulous Noon Goons. Its recent collection features a bold cotton-corduroy jacket, graphic “USA Surf” T-shirt, oversized hoodies and printed sweatshirts for a Malibu-surf-meets-downtown-LA vibe.

One of our personal favourites is cult denim label Simon Miller. Some of the timeless designs available on Mr Porter include a denim jacket inspired by the American southwest, slim-fitting denim shirts and Alpaca sweatshirts, which are revered for their softness.
The Elder Statesman brand, meanwhile, specialises in luxurious cashmere in cool-kid designs. We’re particularly enamoured with the tie-dyed palm tree and stellar solar-system inspired sweaters – both are guaranteed to make a statement.
But California isn’t all sun, sea and surf, as seen in Amiri’s affinity with the downtown grunge music scene. Highlights of its contribution to Mr Porter’s line include distressed denim, embellished leather jackets, skinny jeans and the polka dot twill shirt, which will fit right in in east London.
Other names featured include Mollusk, which is available in the UK for the first time, John Elliott, Golden Bear, Second/Layer, Outerknown and Pintrill. The latter offers retro enamelled badges that make for a great addition to backpacks.
