Wiggle’s New dhb Running Collection
We take the affordable sports brand’s first line of running gear for a road test
Every cyclist worth his salt is already well aware of dhb. The in-house cycling clothing brand of online cycling, running, swimming and triathlon gear retailer Wiggle has a well-earned reputation for quality items at thoroughly competitive prices – and occasionally incredibly low prices.
Although much of dhb’s cycling range has undoubtedly been used for other activities, news that it’s going big on running is excellent news for those who prefer to get around on two feet rather than two wheels. To test out the AW16 running range, I joined dhb for an interval training session in Hyde Park.

dhb Windproof Hooded Jacket
Designed as a top layer for low-intensity runs when the temperature drops, the jacket is windproof and will fend off light showers easily enough. Despite this, it remains pretty breathable, although thanks to the pleasantly balmy evening I tried it on (not to mention the interval sprints) it had to come off fairly quickly to avoid overheating. A solid option for the long, plodding training runs London Marathon entrants will face in the bleak months of January and February. £40, buy on wiggle.co.uk

dhb Run Hoodie
This is a bit of a beaut. It has a relaxed, comfortable fit and is warm enough to be a great option as a top layer for slow runs in autumn, or faster ones when it really turns cold. It’s nice enough that you can ditch the running entirely and just wear it about town. £30, buy on wiggle.co.uk
dhb Run Short Sleeve Stripe Top
There are a couple of T-shirts in the AW16 dhb range, and this is the fancier one. It’s very lightweight with a tight fit and 37.5 technology, which does its level best to keep your body at around that temperature (°C, that is) in all conditions. There’s only so much a top can actually do when it comes to that last promise, but the Stripe Top is eminently comfortable and light. £20, buy on wiggle.co.uk

dhb Short Sleeve Run Top
Although not quite as flash as the Stripe Top, this T-shirt still boasts sweat-wicking and anti-odour properties in its fabric. It has a slightly looser fit than I prefer in a running shirt, especially when it’s likely to go under other tops in the winter, so it’s probably one I’d save for shorter runs on autumnal evenings. It has some nice reflective details too. £16, buy on wiggle.co.uk
dhb 5" Run Shorts
Nice and lightweight, with reflective details and even a couple of small pockets – always a bonus on running shorts, which have a tendency to regard the idea of carrying things in pockets with disdain. The inner mesh was comfortable enough over a short run, but I fear the chafing might be unbearableover long distances. £20, buy on wiggle.co.uk
