MF: What’s been your proudest achievement as an athlete?

AE: Team Dragon CrossFit winning the European CrossFit Open.

MF: And as a coach?

AE: One of my athletes, Maz Glover, won the 45+ category at the Athlete Games in Manchester this year.

MF: What’s the most impressive feat of strength or athleticism you’ve ever seen in the flesh?

AE: I once saw Dmitry Klokov do a 190kg snatch.

MF: What’s the most common thing that people neglect in their training?

AE: Recovery.

MF: What’s a fire-breather and can anyone become one?

AE: It’s an old CrossFit term for somebody who kicks ass when they do a WOD.

MF: Is CrossFit for everyone?

AE: The CrossFit methodology – focusing on constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity – is definitely for everyone.

MF: What's the biggest misconception people have about it?

AE: That you have to be fit in the first place to do it.

MF: Is there a simple, fast, CrossFit-style workout that a beginner could try at his or her own gym to get a feel for it?

AE: Cindy, which is 20 minutes of as many reps as possible of five pull-ups, ten press-ups and 15 air squats back to back.
