3 ways to go harder in the gym
2012 Olympic gymnastics bronze medallist Kristian Thomas reveals what he uses to power up his workouts
Creatine
‘I take 5mg in water before vaulting and floor sessions because it boosts my explosive power and helps me bash out a few more quality reps.’
Hydration tablets
‘Being just 5% dehydrated can reduce work capacity by 30%. We get tested every morning and if our hydration is below a certain level, we take these because they rehydrate you faster than water alone.’
Caffeine
’30 mins before a session I’ll drink a strong coffee, a caffeinated sports drink or swallow a tablet containing 400mg of caffeine to slow my glycogen depletion, giving me enough energy to get through a long session.’
Result: better training sessions

‘If you want to push on in your sessions, you need to prime your body to go hard. That’s what these supplements do.’
