Bose SIE2i
From such a classy brand and at this price, you would expect a great pair of sports earphones – and that’s exactly what you get. These fit comfortably in the ear and won’t fall out thanks to their secure StayHear tips. With TriPort technology, they provide excellent sound level and balance while allowing a little background noise (vital for safety when running outside), although the sound couldn’t be called perfect because it’s a touch bass-heavy. The cable is short but comes with an extension, allowing you to choose your preferred length. The SIE2i earphones also come with an exclusive Reebok sweatband that fits an iPhone or iPod, and an inline remote control for music and a microphone for taking or making calls on the move.

Yurbuds Ironman Inspire Duro
Yurbuds’s slogan is ‘Never Falls Out’ and these earphones live up to that – they allow you to create a personalised fit with TwistLock technology, and come in two sizes so you can choose the most comfortable and secure for your ear. The sound quality is decent, while letting in enough background noise to provide awareness of your surroundings. The earbuds are water-resistant and rugged so you can train hard without worrying that they’ll fall apart. They come with a long cable, which can cause some problems if you’re not especially tall.

Philips ActionFit SHQ1200/10
There’s no doubt these earphones punch above their price bracket for sound quality – you would have to spend considerably more to find better. They’re also very lightweight at only 4g and comfortable, with a choice of three caps for the best fit made of anti-slip rubber so they’ll stay in your ears during training. They are water-resistant – always helpful for people running in British weather – and the cables are reinforced with Kevlar, which means they’ll stay intact during even the most extreme workouts.
