Humanity is yet to travel to Mars or discover a cure for cancer, but fear not, the smartest of our species haven’t been sitting on their hands, they’ve been inventing healthy doughnuts.
Jim Buddy’s Donuts contain a mere 97 calories (that’s 45% of a regular glazed doughnut, Life In Doughnuts fans), and pack in 10g of protein. They’re also low in fat, with around 2.5g per doughnut. All of these marvels are achieved with ingredient switches that cut the calories without compromising on taste.
There’s no added sugar in Jim Buddy’s Donuts, with the sweetness coming from fruit, nuts and stevia, the extract of which is 150 times as sweet as sugar, so only a minuscule amount is needed to ensure the doughnuts don’t dissatisfy.
The protein content is boosted by whey, and the texture is bulked up with fruit and fibre. It all adds up to a package full of nutritional goodness, but does it actually taste like a doughnut? Coach put Jim Buddy’s Donuts to the ultimate test by eating a boxful.
Whisper it quietly, but they might have cracked it. Jim Buddy’s might taste slightly more cakey than doughnutty, but they are undoubtedly delicious, and there’s none of the artificial after-taste you can get with products that try to recreate unhealthy classics without key ingredients. The whole range impressed, but the chocolate orange disappeared the quickest.
