Here at Coach we’re firm advocates of fitness classes as the perfect way to maximise your workout time and stay motivated, but we’re also the first to acknowledge than they can be a bit pricy, especially in London. So when free fitness classes come along, we’re only too keen to shout about them.

Maximuscle has set up the Home of Gains in Vauxhall until 6th March, and you can sign up on the Maximuscle website to access free training sessions as well as competitions to train alongside top athletes.

There are also exclusive offers and advice from Maximuscle’s personal trainers and nutritionists, which could be invaluable if your New Year fitness kick has started to lose some of its lustre.

While the Home of Gains is up and running, Maximuscle will also be shooting videos in which famous sports stars are put to the test. The first episode of the Gain Off series featured England rugby union star Maro Itoje taking on Maximuscle personal trainer Paul Olima over five gym challenges.

First up was a 100kg sled pull, followed by what looks like a frankly excruciating dumbbell hold. The two then competed to do the most 30kg weighted pull-ups before hurling a medicine ball as far as they could. The final challenge was a 15m tyre flip race.

More episodes will follow, with a variety of Maximuscle athletes on the bill. There’s a Six Nations clash between Wales’s George North and England’s Anthony Watson to come, plus challenges involving Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson and pro boxer Anthony Yarde.
